Le Contre-Ciel: A Conversation
Brian Kuan Wood, Yang Yeung, Alexander Lau
To mark the closing of Le Contre-Ciel, organised by Olivia Shao, we have convened a discussion between Brian Kuan Wood, Yang Yeung and Alexander Lau to discuss the thematic and conceptual underpinnings of the exhibition. The gallery will open on a Sunday for this occasion.
Brian Kuan Wood is a writer based in New York, and an editor of e-flux’s monthly journal and book series. Since 2015, he has taught at the MA Curatorial Practice program at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he has been Director of Research. He recently co-curated the 13th Taipei Biennial 2023-24 with Freya Chou and Reem Shadid.
Yang Yeung is a writer of art and an independent curator. She founded the non-profit soundpocket in 2008 and is currently its Artistic Director. Currently Yeung is a member of the international research network Institute for Public Art and contributes research writings on place-making public art projects regularly to the network’s conference and archive. She is member of the independent art critics collective Art Appraisal Club (HK) and the International Art Critics Association (HK).
Alexander Lau is director of Empty Gallery. In addition to his gallery work, Lau sits on the board of non-profit publisher Primary Information. He has previously collaborated with organizations such as Tai Kwun Contemporary, Triple Canopy, Videotage, Printed Matter, The Museum of Chinese in America, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and others.
