Editions Mego 20th Anniversary
Fennesz, Klara Lewis, Ilpo Vaisanen & KTL
The Empty Gallery is proud to present a special two-day concert celebrating the 20th birthday of seminal Viennese experimental record label, Editions Mego. Founded in 1995 by Peter Rehberg (known for his work as Pita and as ½ of KTL), Editions Mego has released some of the most forward-thinking electronic music of the last two decades, including landmark albums by Florian Hecker, Fennesz, Jim O’Rourke, and others. Their output spans the gamut from minimal techno to extreme noise but is always characterized by an intensity and purity of sound which has become a Mego hallmark.
On September 25th, rising young musician, Klara Lewis will open the night with an immersive audio-visual performance featuring her pulsating organic rhythms which evoke variously the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the rainforest, and the fringes of the desert. Following this, Fennesz will grace our gallery with his first ever Hong Kong appearance, bathing the gallery in the warmth of his signature blend of hazy guitar melodies, drifting field recordings, and crunchy digital textures.
September 26th begins with a rare performance by Ilpo Vaisanen, better known as one half of the legendary minimal techno group Pansonic, alongside Mika Vainio. Hot off the release of a new album, Communist Dub, on Editions Mego, Ilpo will present a dub-influenced set of skittering analog rhythm tracks underpinned by earth shattering bass. Last, but certainly not least, the celebration will close with a performance by KTL, the duo of label-head Peter Rehberg and Stephen O’Malley of cult drone-metal band Sunn 0))).
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to catch this group of legendary experimental musicians! Come celebrate with us!
